DrillFlo Tutorial #1 – Create Your First Marching Band Drill Design

This video provides a step-by-step guide on how to create a drill in the DrillFlo application. Here is a summary of the key features and steps covered in the video that can be used as support documentation:

Getting Started: Creating a New Design

To begin, navigate to the DrillFlo dashboard and click on "New Design." This will open the DrillFlo field editor, which includes the performance field, a mode selection panel, a drill timeline, and a main toolbar.

Adding and Customizing Performers

You can add performers to your drill by clicking on "Performers" in the top toolbar. The performer menu allows you to add multiple performers at once by specifying the quantity and a label.

Field Setup

To customize the field settings, go to "Project" and then "Field Settings" in the top toolbar. This will allow you to adjust elements like hash marks to match your desired field type.

Creating the Opening Set

  1. Selection Mode: Use the selection mode to select and move performers around the field. You can activate this mode from the left panel or by pressing the '2' key.

  2. Rotation: The rotate tool can be used to rotate selected performers to a desired angle.

  3. Snap to Grid: The "Snap to Grid" feature can be toggled on or off to either lock performer movements to specific increments or allow for free movement.

  4. Spacing: When performers are selected, a spacing tool will appear, allowing you to evenly distribute them.

Adding Movement and Timing

  1. New Page: To create movement over time, add a new page to the drill timeline using the "Add Page" button.

  2. Counts and Tempo: Adjust the counts and tempo for the new page using the tools at the top of the screen to control the pace of the drill.

  3. Moving Performers: Use the layout tools on the right to move performers to their new positions. You can also use the alignment and spacing tools to create precise formations.

  4. Movement Arrows: To visualize the paths of your performers and check for any overlapping movements, you can enable "Show Movement Arrows" from the right-hand menu.

Playback

To see your drill in action, click on a starting point in the timeline and press the play button or the spacebar.

This tutorial is the first in a series that will cover more advanced topics such as adding and syncing audio and creating more complex formations.
